Canadian polar specialist One Ocean Expeditions has announced an addition to their fleet; the 146 passenger RCGS Resolute. The third ship in their fleet, Resolute will debut in Antarctica in November 2018, having previously operated as the award-winning MS Hanseatic for Hapag-Lloyd.
Designed for maximum comfort, RCGS Resolute is modern, well appointed, safe and ice-strengthened. From small group sessions to briefings for all passengers, there's public spaces onboard the ship ideally suited for each and every need. Two separate bar and lounge areas feature 180 degree views and a wonderfully stocked library provides an ideal place to relax or catch up on some reading. Sumptuous meals prepared by the culinary team are enjoyed in either of the two dining rooms, one of which features a bistro menu offering quick and easy meals for those prioritising time out on deck. Both dining rooms have ample and open seating paired with modern furnishings and large picture windows with 180 degree views. Other facilities include a theatre style presentation room, gift-shop, gymnasium, wellness centre, hot water spa, sauna and steam room and salt water pool. Resolute's first season of voyages will consist of an 11 day Antarctic Peninsula adventure from Ushuaia, a 12 Day Antarctica Off the Beaten Track programme, an 18 day Falklands, South Georgia and Antarctica voyage and a special 13 day expedition exploring the Chilean Fjords. Recently, I was having a chat with Florian from Oceanwide Expeditions about their new expedition ship the Hondius (due to launch in 2019), when he mentioned they were finalising details of their 2020 Ross Sea voyages.
Now, 2020 seems a long way away but this is one special trip you need to get in early for. Poseidon Expedition's Sea Spirit has returned to service ahead of the 2017/18 Antarctic season following a multi-million dollar refurbishment. The refurb focused on refreshing - and modernising - all 54 suites aboard the ship. Each suite has been completely refurbished with new carpeting, draperies, bed linens, upholstery, new furniture and fixtures. Best of all, all bathrooms are completely renovated with new tile throughout, stone vanity top with integrated mirror, designer sink and rain shower. A welcome retreat, indeed, after a day of exploring the polar world! For more information about Sea Spirit and her Antarctic expedition itineraries click here The Antarctic ‘tourist season’ falls during the southern hemisphere summer each year, beginning in late October or early November and running to through late March or early April. Each summer season offers myriad highlights for expeditioners, and each trip is unique. The International Association of Antarctic Tour Operators (IAATO) have put together this useful guide detailing what you can expect to see throughout the season.
